As e-discovery counsel, Ms. Malone addresses the legal, operational, and cost considerations of information governance and complex data management. She oversees data preservation, collection, document review, and production in litigation, internal investigations, and regulatory matters. Her experience with technology-assisted review and large volumes of electronically stored information (ESI) enables efficient, cost-effective, and defensible handling of data.

In her intellectual property practice, Ms. Malone counsels clients on trademark, copyright, media, and technology matters. She develops domestic and international strategies for trademark selection, clearance, prosecution, portfolio management, and brand protection. She also assesses registration and infringement risks and helps clients strengthen and enforce valuable brands.

When intellectual property disputes arise, Ms. Malone guides clients through trademark and copyright infringement claims, licensing matters, fair use, content-related disputes, and trademark and copyright enforcement. She evaluates legal and business risks and develops practical solutions that protect intellectual property assets and advance business objectives.

Her prior career in journalism brings a distinctive perspective to media disputes, reputational concerns, investigations, and content-related claims. Ms. Malone’s background informs her expertise in media law work involving First Amendment, defamation, privacy, content review, and related matters. Before law school, Ms. Malone worked in advertising and local television news in Detroit, first as a photojournalist and later as a field producer responsible for developing and producing feature segments.

Ms. Malone is an Associate practicing in Butzel’s Troy office. She earned her juris doctor, summa cum laude, from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, graduating first in her class and serving as editor-in-chief of the University of Detroit Mercy Law Review. She earned bachelor’s degrees in English and the Program in the Environment from the University of Michigan.
