Our research shows that effective learning occurs when working in small groups or one-on-one with experienced lawyers. Developed through our partnership with Wayne State University, our Coaching Program provides associates with customized, experience based training in the critical business, leadership and practice skills that are essential to a lawyer’s practice.

Mentoring
Shareholders and experienced associates mentor new associates while they become acclimated to the Firm. Also developed through our partnership with Wayne State University, our Mentoring Program is a structured process that includes providing associates with advice and guidance as they navigate their first year with the Firm.

The ability to consistently provide outstanding legal services to their clients is the foundation of a successful lawyer. We know what it takes for you to be successful and we tailor our programs to meet your individual development needs.

Learn To Lead
Through our partnership with Wayne State University, the Firm’s Leadership Development Program provides training targeted to each stage of a lawyer’s career. Topics include efficient utilization of support staff and paralegals, effective mentoring of new associates and developing collaborative relationships within the firm.

Litigation Training
For the past several years, the Firm has focused efforts on its Litigation Associate Training Program. The program combines traditional classroom training with a hands-on approach to practice advocacy skills including mock depositions, witness interviews and cross-examination techniques.

Summer Program
Our Summer Associates are our assurance that Butzel Long will continue its over 160-year history as an outstanding law firm. We seek to provide a valuable experience for law students so that one day they will continue our legacy. Spend your summer in our Michigan offices and have the opportunity to:
- Gain basic legal research training (What they don't teach you in law school!)
- Be involved in real-life law practice experience
- Receive broad exposure to all Firms practice areas
- Make lasting professional relationships to further your legal career

All interviews for students attending Non-Michigan law schools will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023.
