Summer Associate Program
Join the Butzel Summer Associate Program and Shape Your Future
Butzel Long is seeking law students who are driven, ready to learn and grow, and, to one day, continue Butzel’s tradition of Excellence. Excellence is one of our Core Values. We’re proud that our Summer Associate program plays a part in contributing to our more than 170-year history of being recognized among the leading law firms in the nation. We’re honored that several of our attorneys began their careers as Summer Associates at Butzel and remain with us to this day—many staying for decades and making Butzel their permanent home.
You’re invited to apply to our program, where you’ll spend the summer gaining interactive, experience-based learning, and developing not just your legal skills, but also your business and leadership abilities.
As a Summer Associate at Butzel, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Work in a collaborative, non-competitive environment with the goal of long-term employment
- Receive mentorship from experienced Shareholders and Associates
- Customize your experience to explore all our practice areas and develop your personal interests
- Gain firsthand experience with real-life legal work, from research and writing to hearings and courthouse visits
- Receive real-time feedback and evaluations to track your progress
- Obtain coaching on marketing and business development best practices
- Engage with colleagues during fun social events throughout the summer
- Help shape future Summer Associate programs
- Build lasting professional relationships to further your legal career
We’re now accepting applications for our 2027 Summer Associate Program. If you’re a 2L law student attending a Michigan law school, please work with your school to apply through the OCI process. For 2L students at non-Michigan law schools, we invite you to complete our brief application by March 1, 2026. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at recruiting@butzel.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
Join us at Butzel and take the first step towards a bright future in the law.
