Commitment to Sustainability
Butzel Long has been committed to maintaining a sustainable workplace throughout each of our office locations for decades. We’ve embedded sustainability practices into our firm culture. Over the years, we’ve been a part of initiatives including qualifying as a Partner in the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Law Office Climate Challenge Program. Today, we strive to align with the current framework of initiatives set forth by the ABA Section for Environment, Energy, and Resources Sustainability Network, which guides law firms and legal professionals in their endeavors to integrate sustainable practices.
We’re continually seeking new ways to expand our sustainability initiatives. Some of the firm’s current practices include:
- Lowering energy use, waste, and emissions across operations to reduce our environmental footprint
- Encouraging a paperless work environment and digital workflows to cut paper waste to improve efficiency within our offices and externally for our clients
- Use of power management software for applicable electronic equipment
- Installation of energy-efficient lighting and water-saving systems in our offices
- Where possible, we promote the reduction, reuse, and recycling of materials to minimize waste across every department in the firm while encouraging eco-friendly habits throughout our workplace
- Transparency with clients and potential clients regarding the firm’s sustainability goals
- Striving to engage with suppliers who share our commitment to ethical and sustainable practices
- Guide clients on green investments, tax credits, and internal controls related to environmental, sustainability, and energy compliance issues
- Encourage employee engagement in volunteer activities, including those promoting and supporting eco-friendly initiatives
- Provide opportunities for employees to support our local communities through Butzel’s Charity Friday’s program, where employees may nominate charities supporting a broad range of issues, including sustainability and environmental causes
