Maxwell Shuart, Butzel Long Photo

Max Shuart focuses his practice on all aspects of Corporate Law, with a concentration on buy-and sell-side mergers and acquisitions across industries. Max also counsels clients regarding entity formation, corporate governance, real estate, and other pertinent matters inherent to operating a business.

Overview

Well-versed in transactional matters, Max has wide-ranging experience representing companies, private equity firms, family offices, strategic sector clients, and individual clients in buy- and sell-side mergers and acquisitions in industries such as manufacturing, automotive, software, information technology, industrial, professional services, and health care. He is experienced in managing transactional matters from the planning stage to closing and everything in between.

Max also has experience with corporate formation and governance, series fundraising, raising capital and issuing debt, and with drafting operating and shareholder agreements, leases, and employment, customer, and supplier agreements. He assists clients with regulatory filings, insurance matters, and credit and loan agreements. His experience includes drafting and negotiating purchase agreements, customer and supplier contracts, commercial leases, and ancillary documents. Max also has considerable experience representing clients in bankruptcy and receivership matters and with the restructuring and/or liquidation of distressed companies.

Max is an Associate practicing in Butzel’s Detroit office. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Business Law and Young Lawyers Sections. Max earned his juris doctor, cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School, where he was a member of the Wayne Law Review and participated in Moot Court. During law school, Max served as a law clerk to the House of Representative Ways and Means Committee, the nation’s chief tax writing committee, in Washington D.C. Prior to law school, Max attended the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor and received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History.

An avid hockey and sports fan, Max was a four-year letter winner with the University of Michigan ice hockey team and played professional hockey in Sweden. Max stays involved with the Michigan hockey program as a fill-in radio commentator for hockey games and enjoys watching football and playing golf.
