For more than 20 years, Gregory has helped global clients, in a variety of industries, navigate a multitude of IP issues. His practice encompasses the full lifecycle inherent to IP, including brand development, global IP prosecution, mergers and acquisitions, licensing, joint development agreements, patent and trademark validity and infringement opinions, prosecution, and litigation. Gregory is known for reducing IP risks and strengthening protection of stakeholders’ innovations and brands. He has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent and trademark applications across various industries. These experiences and strengths make Gregory an invaluable asset for technology-driven businesses seeking to safeguard and capitalize on their IP portfolios.
When working with clients, Gregory enjoys learning about their businesses and products to understand their needs from their unique perspectives. His experience includes collaborating with businesses at all levels to identify and establish new products and brands for monetization. He assesses client products and services to identify trade secrets, patents, trademarks, and copyrights and then works with the client to develop groups of IP that will meet their long-term goals. His specific areas of experience include a variety of sectors including automotive, robotics, medical, autonomous vehicle, artificial intelligence, clothing/fashion brands, cannabis, and food industries.
Gregory’s extensive experience in brand development and enforcement further include trademark and copyright law matters encompassing the evaluation and filing of trademark and copyright registrations, management of trademark portfolios, Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) proceedings, investigation and response to infringement claims, and issuing online takedown notices, cease-and-desist letters, and filing trademark complaints with a variety of major online platforms. When litigation and enforcement is required, clients benefit from Gregory’s substantial experience. He litigates matters involving intellectual property infringement. He has represented appellants and appellees in matters pending before the United States District Court for the Sixth Circuit.
Gregory Ozga is a Shareholder practicing in Butzel’s Detroit office. He is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His active involvement in pertinent professional organizations keeps him at the forefront of developments in law and technology, enabling him to provide nuanced and comprehensive counsel to his clients. Gregory received his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Albion College and his juris doctor from Michigan State University Detroit College of Law.
Outside work, Gregory enjoys traveling, running, golf, and boating, reflecting his adventurous nature and passion for spending time outdoors.
