WASHINGTON, D.C. – Butzel continues to expand its Washington, DC office with the addition of Tanya Curcio, an intellectual property (IP) and entertainment lawyer. She joins the firm as a Shareholder.

Curcio helps businesses in all industries, creators, and entertainment clients protect and strategically leverage their IP, creative works, brands, and business assets through counsel on trademarks, copyrights, licensing, portfolio management, and enforcement.

Clients seeking to protect, manage, and grow intellectual property assets in the United States and around the world turn to Curcio for practical, business-minded counsel grounded in nearly two decades of experience. She works with companies of all sizes, creators, entertainment ventures, technology platforms, and consumer-facing businesses to align trademark, copyright, licensing, enforcement, and portfolio strategies with commercial and marketing goals. Her experience includes working with clients in sectors including software, health care, hospitality, restaurant, consumer goods, music and entertainment, fashion, and cosmetics.

Across the full life cycle of brand and content protection, Curcio advises on global trademark adoption, clearance, filing, prosecution, maintenance, licensing, enforcement, and dispute strategy. She also manages domestic and international trademark portfolios, handles copyright registrations and disputes, and structures copyright and trademark licensing arrangements designed to support growth while reducing risk.

In disputes and enforcement matters, Curcio represents clients in oppositions, cancellations, and other trademark proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) and coordinates foreign trademark litigation and enforcement through trusted international counsel. Her work also includes helping clients address online infringement and protecting brand integrity online, including handling Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP) matters.

Her entertainment industry background, which includes handling music licensing and royalty calculations at Sony Music Entertainment and EMI Music Publishing, provides a distinctive perspective for clients. Drawing on legal practice and earlier industry experience, Curcio helps clients operating at the intersection of creativity, commerce, and technology as well as other businesses needing to use or protect creative assets.

Curcio is a member of the DC Bar, New York State Bar Association, International Trademark Association and American Intellectual Property Law Association.

Curcio earned a J.D., cum laude, from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce Law Center and a B.B.A. in Music Business Management, cum laude, from Belmont University. She is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and New York.
