Overview

Barrett Young is an Associate in Butzel’s Detroit office. His practice includes appeals, commercial litigation, the First Amendment, defamation, privacy, intellectual property, the Freedom of Information Act, the Open Meetings Act, counseling media organizations, and advising schools on student disciplinary issues. He works with clients at every stage of a matter—from a demand letter to a court of last resort.

Barrett’s passion for the law is only matched by his enthusiasm for computer science. He develops algorithms, databases, processes, and other technological solutions to reveal and organize obscured information and deliver better results for clients.

After he earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, Barrett worked in the Faculty Division of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies in Washington, DC. He then went on to earn his law degree from The University of Chicago. Following law school, Barrett was an associate at an Am Law 100 Firm located in Washington, DC. Barrett also served as the Senior Counselor to Deputy Secretary of Labor Patrick Pizzella. And finally, before joining Butzel, he clerked for Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Richard Allen Griffin.

During his free time, Barrett plays squash and tennis; he also enjoys adding Internet of Things devices to his home.
