Overview
Butzel’s State and Local Government Relations Team is renowned for our reputation as an influential and experienced group of professionals with strong connections to key decision-makers on both sides of the aisle in state and local government, including regulatory agencies and executive branches. We advocate for our clients—always with high integrity and our clients’ best interests top of mind—before policymakers to effect how regulations and laws are enacted in areas such as antitrust and trade regulation, corporate and securities regulation, education, energy and natural resources, environment, financing, health care fraud defense, health care licensing, immigration, infrastructure construction, insurance, labor and employment, licensing, oil and gas, public utilities, taxation, telecommunications, and more. Our clients depend on us to help shape the success of their businesses in the immediate economic climate and into the future.
With five offices located in economic hubs in major cities throughout Michigan and an office in key US political venue, Washington, D.C., we can draw on the depth and breadth of our connections across the entire firm to make the contacts our clients need to do business effectively and efficiently. The professionals on this team possess the experience our clients can depend on to interpret and comply with current laws and regulations pertinent to their industry, advocate to make changes, and when necessary, litigate in state and local courts and administrative agencies. We negotiate and structure economic incentives for new investment at all levels, and we have advised on several of the largest and most significant developments in the State of Michigan that relate to brownfield credit, tax abatements, public grants, and investment.
This team has extensive experience collaborating with non-lawyer government relations personnel, economic incentive specialists, and other attorneys across our firm to assist clients in meeting requirements for doing business in Michigan and throughout the United States. We measure success by our record of positive regulatory and administrative law resolutions achieved for our clients.
