Michelle E. Cirino focuses her practice on employment litigation, general litigation, and family law matters. Michelle helps clients navigate disputes with practical, effective legal counsel, including drafting motions and briefs, analyzing complex legal and compliance issues, preparing litigation strategies, and guiding businesses and individuals in matters at various stages of the dispute resolution process.

Overview

As a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Department, Michelle counsels employers on workplace disputes, employment claims, policy-related issues, and litigation involving employee relations, discrimination, retaliation, wrongful discharge, and other employment-related issues. She also represents clients in broader litigation and family law matters, employing her strong research, writing, and case-analysis skills to help clients understand their options, assess potential risks, and pursue practical strategies tailored to their goals.

Prior to joining Butzel, Michelle served as a judicial extern for Chief Magistrate Judge Grand at the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Her experience in federal court as a judicial extern, combined with her background in civil procedure, contracts, torts, and legal writing, allows her to help clients evaluate risks, respond effectively to claims, and move matters forward with clarity and confidence.

Michelle is an Associate practicing in Butzel’s Detroit office. She was previously a Summer Associate in the firm’s Litigation practice where she gained experience preparing motions and briefs regarding various matters and researched complex compliance issues.

Michelle received her juris doctor, summa cum laude, from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and graduated first in her class. While in law school, she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. Michelle also previously served as a Teaching Assistant for Civil Procedure, Contracts Law, and Torts Law.

In her personal time, Michelle enjoys listening to music, trying new restaurants, and spending time with her family, friends, cats, and dog.
