Zachary Smith focuses his practice in the areas of landlord-tenant law, business formation, contracts, estate planning, real estate, criminal defense, and expungements. He is recognized for his tenacious approach to achieving successful results for clients in a variety of industries.

Overview

Before joining Butzel, Zachary practiced at a full-service law firm where he handled matters involving civil litigation, wills and estates, divorce and custody, criminal defense, and landlord-tenant proceedings. He has also served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in jurisdictions in Southwest Michigan and has owned and operated a boutique practice in Branch County, Michigan.

A community advocate, Zachary is currently serving his third term as a Watervliet City Commissioner and is also a member of the Watervliet Joint Fire Board, the Watervliet Planning Commission, and the Watervliet Parks & Recreation Committee.

Zachary is an Associate located in Butzel’s South Haven office. He received his juris doctor from Valparaiso University Law School and earned a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Professional and Applied Ethics, magna cum laude, from Western Michigan University.
