Overview
Ashley Barrett focuses her practice on counseling candidates on the formation of nonprofit political entities, compliance with state and federal election laws, and should the need arise, representation before election authorities and litigation in the political space.
Ms. Barrett has 20 years of experience in the political arena, which includes her familial ties to politics. Ashley’s experience sets her apart due to the perspective she has accumulated, often lending an advantage in better relating to candidates than most election law attorneys who may never have participated in the political arena themselves. “Politics” are personal to Ashley, and in addition to providing exceptional legal counsel, she brings to the table a unique viewpoint from first-hand experience that cannot be taught in law school or a courtroom.
Ashley serves as legal counsel to candidate committees, ballot committees, PACs, and Super PACs, nonprofit corporate entities, lobbyists, and lobbying agents at the state and federal levels. Ms. Barrett seeks to represent clients who are running for elected office to the state legislature, statewide offices, and the Unites States Congress.
Ms. Barrett is Of Counsel for Butzel and practices in the firm’s Lansing office. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and Federalist Society. Ashley obtained her juris doctor from Michigan State University College of Law and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Michigan University.
