Trump Administration Regulatory Reform Process – an Update

5.12.2017

One of the hallmarks of the Trump Administration is its intention to shake up the old way of doing things in Washington. To that end, the President has issued Executive Orders that require Executive Agencies to put in place procedures for reexamining all of their regulations (https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2017/02/24/presidential-executive-order-enforcing-regulatory-reform-agenda) and to develop a comprehensive plan for reorganizing the Executive Branch (https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2017/03/13/presidential-executive-order-comprehensive-plan-reorganizing-executive). We had previously written a Client Alert explaining how this provides the chance for companies to influence the process of regulatory reform (client-alert-detail/New-Trump-Executive-Order-Creates-Regulatory-Reform-Process-for-All-Agencies.html).

As an update to that earlier Client Alert, we wanted to inform you that the May 15, 2017 Federal Register includes a notice from the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), which is responsible for coordinating the reforms. The notice explains how companies and individuals can provide input into the government-wide reform plan designed to make the Executive branch more efficient and more responsive (Permalink). That notice establishes June 12, 2017 as the deadline for submitting comments, and explains that any such comments are to be filed electronically via a newly-created website: https://www.whitehouse.gov/reorganizing-the-executive-branch. This is a rare opportunity to influence how the federal government can be improved to better serve your company’s or your industry’s interests. Butzel Long’s lawyers would be happy to assist you in formulating and submitting any comments you might want to make.
