Overview
Mr. Simmons represents clients in a wide range of complex disputes, including breach of contract, non-compete, and trade secret matters. He also handles residential construction disputes, helping clients resolve issues efficiently while protecting their financial and business interests through negotiation, mediation, or litigation when necessary.
Admitted to practice in Michigan and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, Mr. Simmons has obtained successful outcomes for a variety of clients in various courts across the state.
Prior to joining Butzel, Mr. Simmons worked for a Michigan law firm where he represented corporations and individuals in civil litigation disputes involving personal, property, and casualty insurance claims. He also worked as a judicial law clerk at the Wayne County Circuit Court where he wrote judicial memoranda and legal opinions regarding pending civil lawsuits. His judicial clerkship experience provides him with first-hand insight to share with clients regarding the judicial decision-making and court processes.
Mr. Simmons has been named to the list of The Best Lawyers in America® “Ones to Watch” in numerous years in recognition of his commercial litigation practice. He has also been named to the Michigan Chronicle’s 2025 Class of 40 Under 40 for his impact on the community. Additionally, Mr. Simmons is a graduate of Leadership Detroit Class XLIII, a community leadership program led by the Detroit Regional Chamber.
Mr. Simmons is a Shareholder in the firm’s Detroit office. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, with High Distinction, from the University of Michigan. He obtained his juris doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law where he served as the Business Editor for I/S: A Journal of Law and Policy for the Information Society.
Outside of his legal practice, Mr. Simmons is a member of the Canton Cares Fund Advisory Committee and is the Southeast Regional Chair for the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel.
