Overview
Mr. McBride’s vast experience encompasses positions as in-house counsel for a US-based steel manufacturing entity and a multi-national banking and financial services corporation. Over the years he has assisted clients in the origination of complex commercial loans, such as construction and asset-based loans and real estate financing. Mr. McBride has significant experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements that range from software licensing agreements to raw material supply agreements and other intricate commercial contracts, including international shipping agreements.
Sellers and purchasers of commercial and residential real estate, developers, landlords, and tenants all benefit from Derek McBride’s multifaceted experience in this area of the law. He has extensive experience in commercial lending and has worked with developers to establish condominium projects for a variety of uses. Additionally, he counsels landlords and tenants in the establishment and modification of commercial leases, and when called upon, assists with enforcement of the rights of parties involved in such agreements. He has represented clients in private practice and as in-house counsel.
He also has a keen interest in the entertainment industry and has advised independent film companies regarding legal issues in connection with the production of feature films and distribution agreements. Mr. McBride has also represented clients in trademark and copyright matters, as well as celebrity endorsement deals.
Prior to joining Butzel, Mr. McBride practiced Real Estate and Business Law at a firm with offices located across Michigan. Notably, he has been recognized by a prominent legal publication for his experience in Real Estate Law.
