Butzel Long attorneys elected shareholders

DETROIT, Mich. – The law firm of Butzel Long has elected Christopher J. Nelson and Max J. Newman as shareholders. Previously, Mr. Nelson and Mr. Newman were senior attorneys.

Christopher J. Nelson practices in Butzel Long's Bloomfield Hills office. Mr. Nelson concentrates his practice in the area of business and commercial litigation, including disputes involving contracts, corporate management, real estate, fraud, insurance coverage, employment, and the Uniform Commercial Code.

Mr. Nelson is a graduate of Washington University School of Law (J.D., 1995) where he served as Associate Editor of the Washington University Law Quarterly, and authored "Director Liability and the Insolvent Federally Chartered Financial Institution," 73 Wash U.L.Q. 1447 (1995). He also is a graduate of Michigan State University (B.A., 1992).

Max J. Newman is based in Butzel Long's Bloomfield Hills office. He concentrates his practice in the representation of debtors, creditors committees, creditors and customers in all aspects of Chapter 11 Reorganizations. He has pursued appeals from Bankruptcy Court to the Sixth Circuit and Federal District Court and has also handled cases in the Michigan Appellate Courts. Mr. Newman has handled bankruptcy matters throughout the country, including New York, Delaware, Texas, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan.

Mr. Newman is listed in Michigan Super Lawyers for 2007. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and is active with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the Anti-Defamation League and is a member of the Founding Board of Standwithus – Michigan.

Mr. Newman is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School (J.D. with honors, 1994) where twice he was a Campbell Moot Court Semi-finalist. His undergraduate degree is also from the University of Michigan (A.B., 1990 with high honors), where he was a James B. Angell Scholar and took the William Branstrom Freshman Prize.
