“The Impact of COVID-19 on International Trade and Commerce”
Join Les Glick, BS ’67, JD ’70, co-chair of the International Trade and Customs Specialty Team in the Washington office of the Detroit based law firm Butzel Long, and Vice-Chair of the ABA Customs Committee for a discussion of the impact of COVID-19 and related laws and decrees on international trade. The discussion will include efforts to facilitate US imports and restrict exports of critical items through proposals to suspend certain tariffs; to extend time for payment of customs duties; exemptions from existing 25% penalty duties on imports from China and new export restrictions requiring review of critical exports by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Mr. Glick will address federal and state decrees on restricting non-essential manufacturing activities including decrees in Mexico and Canada that affect international supply chains and a discussion of how this has impacted the U.S. auto industry and others. There will be an opportunity for Q&A.
Attendees will receive 1 NY CLE credit in the area of Professional Practice. This program is appropriate for both transitional and non-transitional attorneys.
