DETROIT, Mich. – Butzel Long attorney and shareholder Clara DeMatteis Mager has been named a “2015 Honoree for Michigan Women in the Law” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly. Mager is one of 30 female attorneys who will be honored during a luncheon on September 10, 2015 at the Marriott Hotel in Troy. The event will celebrate the individuals who have made meaningful and inspiring contributions to the legal community. Honorees also will be profiled in an upcoming edition of Michigan Lawyers Weekly.

As the Immigration Practice Department Leader, Mager has been instrumental in growing the practice. Notably, Butzel Long received (Tier Two) recognition in the 2015 “Best Law Firms,” rankings by U.S. News Media Group, the publisher of U.S. News & World Report and nationwide recognition by Chambers & Partners.

Mager focuses her practice on business and family immigration issues including all aspects of the international movement of personnel, inbound and outbound work-authorized nonimmigrant (temporary) and immigrant (permanent) status, immigration consequences of mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructuring, employer sanctions, and immigration law audits.

She is a firm liaison to Lex Mundi, a global association of 160 independent law firms. She has served as Chair and Regional Chair of the Lex Mundi Immigration Committee. She is very active with the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation providing legal services to select “social entrepreneurs.” The Foundation is part of the global social entrepreneur movement for positive social change. She is active in the community working on pro bono immigration matters.

"Primarily what we do, in all of our immigration matters, is to assist our clients in navigating the complicated and demanding U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service process to obtain the talent they require to conduct business internationally," said Mager.

Her pro bono work has included supporting social entrepreneurs including Sustainable Harvest and Project Muso, both of which were referred to Butzel Long through the Foundation's matching service.

Mager has assisted Sustainable Harvest with citizenship support and immigration services for its employees by obtaining green cards and other forms of documentation for qualified staff members essential to the mission of the organization. Sustainable Harvest creates an efficient market for coffee imports that directly benefits more than 200,000 farmers in Central America.

Moreover, Mager has performed similar assistance for Project Muso, securing necessary documentation for a Malian national who was key to the organization and wished to continue her work overseas. Project Muso is an international organization dedicated to preventing and treating the world's most deadly curable diseases. Their work in Mali has prevented the deaths of hundreds of children who may have otherwise suffered from easily preventable diseases such as malaria and pneumonia, while promoting enterprise development, education, and community engagement in impoverished areas.

Butzel Long has invested hundreds of pro bono hours into organizations like Sustainable Harvest and Project Muso. “The firm's pro bono efforts in immigration help organizations fulfill needs within their organization to accomplish their mission,” added Mager. “By solving these immigration challenges, our Butzel Long team is helping to improve communities and lives around the world.

Mager is currently a Board Member of the Italian American Alliance for Business and Technology, The French American Chamber of Commerce and Leonardo International, Inc.
