BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – Butzel Long attorney Allan Nachman will become Chair of the Friends of Modern and Contemporary Art (FMCA)of the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) on November 19. FMCA is the largest auxiliary of the DIA. The FMCA engages in the following activities:
  • Sponsors and supports activities that cultivate awareness, appreciation, understanding, and knowledge of all aspects of contemporary art
  • Encourages education, communication, and fellowship by bringing together people interested in all aspects of contemporary art with works of art, artists, curators, scholars, collectors, dealers and critics
  • Assists the DIA by advice and individual and collective participation in the acquisition by purchase, donation or loan of contemporary art.

"The Detroit Institute of Arts is one of the premier art museums in the world," said Mr. Nachman, who has served on the Auxiliary for 10 years. "I am honored and excited to assist in maintaining its vitality, especially in these challenging economic times."

Mr. Nachman, a resident of Bloomfield Township, is very active in the metropolitan Detroit community. Currently, he is on the Boards of the Hospice of Michigan, the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, Franklin Hills Country Club and Adat Shalom Synagogue.

Based in the firm's Bloomfield Hills office, Mr. Nachman practices real property law specializing in commercial, industrial, office, multi-family, shopping center, mobile home park and residential properties, mortgage lending through representation of borrowers and institutional lenders, leasing of offices, shopping centers and industrial properties, and representation of general contractors, subcontractors, and subdivision developers.

Mr. Nachman is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association, a member of the Real Property Law Section and Committees on Mortgage Financing and Commercial Leasing of the State Bar of Michigan and the American Bar Association. Mr. Nachman is listed in The Best Lawyers in America.

Mr. Nachman received his B.A. in 1960 and his J.D. in 1963 from The University of Michigan Law School. He has been a frequent lecturer at Institute of Continuing Legal Education seminars and has lectured at Michigan State Bar Real Property Law Section Homeward Bound Seminars. Mr. Nachman has been an investigator for the State Bar Grievance Board as well as a member of the Panel of Construction Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association.
