Litigation Senior Attorney or Non-Equity Shareholder
LOCATION: Niles, St. Joseph or South Haven, Michigan
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Butzel is seeking a standout candidate to join our growing team in Southwest Michigan. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare for and represent clients in litigation proceedings, including trials, hearings, discovery, motion practice, etc.
- Construct and review pleadings, motions, discovery requests, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
- Take and defend depositions and interact with expert witnesses.
- Collaborate with paralegals, legal assistants, and other attorneys within the firm.
- Provide guidance, oversight, and mentoring to attorneys with less litigation experience, including reviewing work product and supporting their professional development.
- Maintain responsive communication with other Firm attorneys and clients regarding case developments.
- Provide legal counsel and develop case strategies tailored to clients’ unique needs.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
- Ability to provide client service befitting Butzel standards of excellence and hospitality.
- Oversee case files and manage deadlines efficiently using legal practice management systems.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR TRAINING:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited law school.
- Must have at least 6 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
- Admitted to practicing law in the state of Michigan.
- Have experience within the practice area of commercial litigation.
- Supervisory and mentoring experience a plus.
