JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction, the Litigation Legal Assistant provides comprehensive support to the litigation attorneys, paralegals, and litigation legal assistant teams across the Firm. The work is specialized and requires knowledge of legal document preparation and processing requirements, legal terminology, civil procedure and discovery, court systems, and all facets of litigation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compose a variety of correspondence and prepare legal documents for which knowledge of legal terminology, civil procedure and discovery processes is required
  • Open and maintain legal files according to accepted practices and Firm policy
  • Provide case management assistance and track litigation deadlines, tasks, and status updates
  • Format briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents, with the ability to file documents traditionally and electronically in state and federal courts
  • Maintain attorney calendars by scheduling conferences, teleconferences, depositions, and travel; recording and monitoring court appearance dates, pleadings, and filing requirements; tracking discovery responses; and staying current on changes in litigation requirements
  • Document and input attorney reimbursable expenses
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the job classification
  • Maintain client confidence by keeping attorney/client information confidential

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong proofreading, grammar, and editing skills
  • Demonstrate responsibility, organization, attention to detail, and sound problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of federal and state court filings, including e-filing, and the ability to generate tables of contents and tables of authorities
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities in a timely, organized manner
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Copilot, and Adobe Professional, is preferred
  • Knowledge of SurePoint and Concur is also helpful
  • Demonstrate strong productivity, accuracy, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Interact professionally with internal and external contacts, including Firm employees, opposing counsel, and court personnel
  • Use sound judgment to make decisions appropriate to the level of responsibility
  • Ability to learn new skills and systems quickly

  • Communicate clearly and proactively with attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and administrative teams across offices and practice groups
  • Share in workload coverage, share relevant updates, and adapt to different working styles and priorities
  • Demonstrate follow-through and accountability when managing assignments, deadlines, handoffs, and updates
  • Build positive working relationships while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and a client-service mindset
  • Ask clarifying questions, escalate issues appropriately, and keep others informed when priorities, deadlines, or assignments change

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING:

  • Minimum of three years of litigation legal support
  • Experience with appellate court filings is helpful
