Tariff on Imports From India Will Increase to 50% on August 27

8.7.2025

Yesterday, August 6, 2025, the President issued an Executive Order imposing an additional 25% tariff on India effective August 27, 2025, based on a national emergency relating to India’s imports of oil from the Russian Federation under the International Economic Emergency Powers Act (IEEPA).  This tariff will be in addition to the 25% IEEPA reciprocal tariff on India that will take effect today, bringing the total tariff on most Indian imports to 50%.

The Executive Order also indicates that the President may impose an additional 25% tariff on other countries that import Russian oil.
