Public Employers

Butzel Longs attorneys represent many state public employers, including cities, townships, counties, universities, community colleges, K-12 school districts, charter schools, and other entities. We are well-versed in issues that are unique to public employers, including constitutional free speech, due process, the Public Employment Labor Relations Act, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Open Meetings Act, the Teachers Tenure Act, and the School Code.

Our team practices before the Michigan Employment Relations Commission (MERC) and other civil service commissions. We have represented clients in matters involving the Michigan State Tenure Commission, as well. Our attorneys have handled countless fact-findings, Act 312 arbitrations, grievance arbitrations, collective bargaining negotiations, and strikes.
