Butzel Long has developed a substantial international/outbound immigration practice, in which our attorneys prepare and obtain tourist, business and work visas for foreign countries. We provide complex coordination and legal analysis to effectively facilitate the international movement and relocation of employees between countries worldwide. The Immigration Practice Group has extensive experience in securing work and residence permits for numerous countries around the globe, including: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Great Britain, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Russia.

In addition, Butzel Long maintains relationships with foreign Consulates and Embassies throughout the United States to provide every advantage to our clients in representing their interests.To better serve our clients in Mexico, Butzel Long established Alliance offices in Mexico City and Monterrey. This is the result of a formalized long existing relationship with the law firm of Gil Elorduy, Yritu y Asociados, S.C. We are also a member of the China Alliance, a unique partnership established by four leading independent law firms that recognized Chinas increasing importance in the international marketplace and in North America particularly. Our attorneys provide a detailed analysis to determine whether work authorization is required or if a business visa is appropriate according to the activities to be conducted in the foreign country. In general, permissible business visitor activities do not include performing productive labor. If a foreign work permit is required, Butzel Long attorneys assist their clients to obtain the work permit in either the foreign country, or the foreign countrys embassy or consulate in the United States, depending on the laws of the foreign country. We also assist in processing work and dependant visas, if required, and any registration processes after entering the foreign country.
