Corporate and bankruptcy attorney Junhua (June) Gu joins Butzel Long

DETROIT, Mich. –  Junhua (June) Gu has joined Butzel Long as an associate attorney based in the firm’s Detroit office. Ms. Gu concentrates her practice on corporate, bankruptcy, and international matters.

“June brings both international business experience as well as a diverse U.S. legal background,” said Justin G. Klimko, President, Butzel Long. “Her depth and breadth of experience complement several of our firm’s key practice areas.”

Ms. Gu has experience representing both domestic and international clients in various corporate matters, including representing owners in buying and selling businesses, counseling clients on choice-of-entity and corporate governance, and drafting shareholder and operating agreements. She has advised United States companies on international business transactions and negotiated international sales contracts, and she assists Chinese companies establish subsidiaries in the United States.

She has represented both debtors and creditors in bankruptcy proceedings, and her clients have included several Chinese export companies. Ms. Gu also has handled business immigration matters.

In 2009, Ms. Gu was the recipient of the Chinese Association of Greater Detroit's Community Service Award.

Ms. Gu is a member of the State Bar of Michigan's International Law Section. She has been the business manager for the Detroit Chinese Business Association since 2008, and she is a member of the Board of Directors for the North American Chinese Society of Automotive Engineers.

Ms. Gu is a graduate of Wuhan Textile University (Bachelor of Engineering in Textile Materials and Design), 1996 in Wuhan, China Renmin University of China (Master of Science in Management), 1999 in Beijing, China and the Brooklyn Law School (J.D., cum laude), 2003. 

Prior to graduating from law school, Ms. Gu worked as a summer intern at the Michigan Attorney General’s Office – Consumer Protection Division a student law clerk for the Honorable Edward M. Rappaport, Justice of the Supreme Court, Kings County in Brooklyn, New York and a research assistant for Professor Samuel Murumba at the Brooklyn Law school. Ms. Gu is licensed to practice in Michigan and New York. She speaks Mandarin Chinese and English.
