Butzel Long attorneys elected shareholders

DETROIT, Mich. – Butzel Long has announced that two attorneys have been elected shareholders in the firm’s Ann Arbor and New York offices – Lynn McGuire in the Ann Arbor office and Robin Levitt Topol in the New York office. Previously, Ms. McGuire was a senior attorney and Ms. Topol was Of Counsel to the firm.

Lynn McGuire concentrates her practice in the area of employee benefits law. Before joining Butzel Long, Ms. McGuire was a partner in a private practice, providing services to various fiduciaries including fringe benefit fund sponsors and Boards, creating fringe benefit trust funds, plan documents, summary plan descriptions, summaries of material modifications and other ERISA notices.

She has managed complex civil litigation matters, including ERISA-based fiduciary liability claims, prohibited transactions, and pension investment litigation. Ms. McGuire has counseled fiduciaries facing mergers, plant closings, and plan terminations. She has represented many clients in Department of Labor audits and investigations. Ms. McGuire has extensive experience in negotiating contracts with those who provide services to employee benefit plans, such as actuaries, auditors, consultants, investment advisors, and third party administrators. She has advised on issues such as retiree healthcare obligations, as well as tax-advantaged severance policy design structures.

Ms. McGuire is admitted to practice in the States of Ohio and Michigan. She is a member of the American Bar Association, and the State Bars of Michigan and Ohio. Ms. McGuire serves on the Board of the Washtenaw Area Council for Children.

Ms. McGuire graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School (J.D., 1997), where she was a Student Note Editor for the Journal of College and University Law, and received a degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan – Dearborn (B.A., with Distinction, 1993).

Robin Levitt Topol practices in the area of real estate. Prior to joining Butzel Long, Ms. Topol was a partner in a prominent New York law firm, practicing in the real estate department. Her extensive experience includes: sales and purchases of commercial property and shopping centers financing trade credit transactions leasing of commercial, office, shopping center and retail property.

Ms. Topol has negotiated leases and subleases for clients including the world’s largest advertising agency holding company, a global public relations company, a marketing and advertising agency on a nation-wide basis (including in Chicago, Detroit, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Tampa, Philadelphia, and Greenwich, Connecticut) and a national insurance company in connection with the leasing of a New York City office building.

She has represented national and multi-national clients in connection with multiple retail locations throughout the metropolitan New York area a management company in connection with its leasing of a shopping center in New Jersey including leases with numerous retail tenants a well-known Las Vegas restaurant numerous restaurants in New York garage leases in New York leases for numerous retail stores throughout New York office leases for an international asset management firm in connection with its 350,000 square foot relocation of its New York City headquarters, as well as the disposition of two 90,000 square foot premises an international insurance company, in connection with its 37,000 square foot lease a technology corporation in connection with the Industrial Development Association a Canadian corporation in connection with its multiple relocations a Massachusetts software corporation, in connection with its New York, San Francisco, Cambridge, Massachusetts, Australia and London, England lease transactions the North American division of an international electronics corporation in connection with its relocation a healthcare advisory and financial services firm headquartered in New York City in connection with its 25,000 square foot lease one of the world’s largest independently owned private equity firm in connection with its leases in New York, Greenwich, Connecticut and London.

Ms. Topol’s memberships have included: WX (formerly: Commercial Real Estate Women) Harrison Town Planning Board Harrison Town Architectural Review Board Alumni Board of Directors Yale School of Management Women’s Bar Association, Chair of the Real Property Committee American Bar Association, Vice Chair of the Real Property Section New York County Lawyer’s Association, Real Property Committee and she has served as a panelist for the New York University School of Law Real Estate Legal Practice.

Ms. Topol graduated from the Yale School of Management – Executive Management Program (EMMP), New York University School of Law (J.D.) and Barnard College (B.A., cum laude,). She also attended Stanford University in London, England (studying Comparative Legal Systems and History).

Ms. Topol is admitted to practice before the Courts of the States of New York and Florida.
