Butzel Long attorney George B. Donnini featured during MACPA’s Anti-Fraud Issues Conference on May 18

DETROIT, Mich. – Butzel Long attorney and shareholder George B. Donnini will participate in a panel presentation during the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) Anti-Fraud Issues Conference on May 18, 2010. Other speakers on the panel include John Sullivan and Rich Rolwing, trial attorneys, U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Tax Division, Washington, D.C.

The panel program is entitled, “Taking Aim at Kickbacks.” The speakers will discuss differing types of kickback schemes that are most prevalent in today’s corporate environment. Those attending the program will learn techniques to detect and examine kickback schemes, as well as controls to prevent them.

Based in Butzel Long’s Detroit office, Mr. Donnini’s practice is focused on white-collar criminal defense, SEC enforcement actions, corporate internal investigations, and other types of fraud matters. Mr. Donnini assists companies with investigations where company employees, outside professionals, fiduciaries, and others are engaged in kickback schemes. Mr. Donnini also represents individuals who are alleged to have participated in such kickback schemes. Whether representing companies or individuals charged with misconduct, Mr. Donnini brings his considerable experience to bear to resolve the matter.

Mr. Donnini has experience in a broad array of criminal and civil cases, representing clients at both the trial and appellate levels in federal and state courts across the country. He has varied and significant experience representing clients in criminal cases involving allegations of revenue recognition, securities, and tax fraud, antitrust violations, theft of trade secrets, insider trading, stock options back-dating, health care, environmental and mortgage fraud. He also has conducted several internal investigations for both private and publicly traded companies. He aggressively, creatively, and successfully represents clients in a wide variety of federal and state criminal matters.

Prior to joining Butzel Long, Mr. Donnini served as a Judge Advocate for the United States Marine Corps from 1999 to 2003. Mr. Donnini also served as law clerk to The Honorable William H. Pauley III, United States District Court, S.D.N.Y., New York, New York from 1998 to 1999.

Mr. Donnini is admitted to practice in Michigan (2003), New York (1998) and California (2000). He also is admitted before all U.S. District Courts in Michigan, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd and 6th Circuits.

Mr. Donnini is affiliated with the American Bar Association (ABA), Criminal Justice Section, White Collar Crime Committee, Young Lawyers' Division National Co-Chair (2006-2009) ABA, Criminal Justice Section, White Collar Crime Committee Midwest Regional Co-Chair (2005-2010) and, ABA, Criminal Justice Section, Book Board, Appointed Member (2008-2011).

Mr. Donnini frequently presents at conferences on various topics involving white-collar criminal defense.
