Employers may respond in different ways after judge blocks new overtime rule
Michigan employers returning from the Thanksgiving holiday next week will not be required to implement a new federal overtime pay rule for the roughly 100,000 state residents who might have become eligible, after a Texas court judge placed an injunction against it.
It was not immediately clear Wednesday whether the U.S. Department of Labor will appeal an order Tuesday evening from U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant of the federal Eastern District of Texas, in favor of 21 state attorneys general, including Bill Schuette of Michigan. Even if it does, attorneys said, the appeal might carry over into a new presidential administration that may not favor the rule.
