Butzel Long attorney Daniel R. W. Rustmann to receive the 2009 LAW Award on May 3 for providing positive leadership

Attorney also featured speaker at supply management conference

DETROIT, Mich. – Butzel Long attorney and shareholder Daniel R. W. Rustmann will be presented with the 2009 LAW Award by the Lutheran Attorneys In Witness (LAW) on May 3, 2009 at the Historic Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit, Mich. The award recognizes an individual for their positive contributions to the community and to the church. LAW is an association of Lutheran attorneys and judges in Southeast Michigan.

Mr. Rustmann also will be a featured speaker at the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) 94th Annual International Supply Management Conference on May 4, 2009 in Charlotte, N.C. His presentation is titled "Lessons from the Automotive Front Lines: Supply Chain Management in a Distressed Economy."

Based in Butzel Long's Detroit office, Mr. Rustmann's practice has been devoted principally to litigation. He has handled cases in a wide variety of substantive areas, including product liability defense, UCC warranty litigation, sales representative commission disputes, non-compete disputes, adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court, shareholder litigation, employment litigation, and even vessel collision and other property damage cases under Federal admiralty law. As a member of Butzel Long's Global Automotive Team, Mr. Rustmann has gained substantial experience representing tier 1 and tier 2 suppliers in termination and supply disputes and in other contract matters.

Mr. Rustmann is admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan, the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Michigan and the Northern District of Indiana, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He also has been admitted for purposes of specific cases in numerous other jurisdictions across the country, including in California, Texas, Wisconsin, Delaware, and New York. He is a member of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, the Michigan Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Defense Research Institute.

Mr. Rustmann devotes a significant amount of time to charitable causes, including serving as Vice President of First English Evangelical Lutheran Church and Chairperson of the Board of Stewardship and Finance. He is past president of the Detroit Lutheran Schools Association, and former board member and founder of Great Lakes Adaptive Sailing.

Mr. Rustmann is a graduate of Valparaiso University School of Law (J.D., 1989, with distinction) and Valparaiso University (B.A., 1986).
