Butzel Long announces senior attorneys

DETROIT, Mich. – The law firm of Butzel Long has named Charlotte Garry Carne and William J. Kliffel as senior attorneys. Previously, they were associate attorneys.

Based in Butzel Long's Detroit office, Charlotte Garry Carne’s practice includes all areas of labor and employment law. She routinely provides counseling and advice to management on employment law issues and avoiding litigation. Ms. Carne is adept at handling complex litigation matters and labor negotiations. She has represented clients before state and federal courts, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, and various other state civil rights agencies and labor commissions.

Ms. Carne has published a number of articles. She is a member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Committee of the American Bar Association (ABA) Labor and Employment Section. She is active in several community organizations, including serving as a board member for the Coalition for Temporary Shelter ("COTS"). Ms. Carne is licensed to practice in both Michigan and California.

Ms. Carne graduated from the University of Michigan (B.A. 1993) and earned her law degree at Pepperdine University (J.D. 1998), where she was the articles editor for the Pepperdine Law Review. Ms. Carne is a resident of Ann Arbor.

William J. Kliffel, who is based in Butzel Long's Detroit office, practices in the area of business litigation. He has extensive experience in asbestos defense litigation, including product identification, liability issues, appearance work and medical aspects of defense of both manufacturers and suppliers.

He also has experience in the defense of automotive negligence, premises liability, medical malpractice and products liability cases. Mr. Kliffel is a member of the State Bar of Michigan.

Mr. Kliffel is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School (J.D., 1993) and The University of Michigan (B.A., 1987). Mr. Kliffel is a resident of Ortonville.
