Michele L. Polito

Michele Polito is a Senior Paralegal in Butzel Long's Immigration Practice Group. She graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French Language and Culture and attended the American Institute for Paralegal Studies.

Ms. Polito has worked in the field of immigration law for nearly twenty years. Her expertise includes preparing nonimmigrant petitions, including L (Intracompany Transferees), E-1/E-2 (Treaty Trader/Investor), O (Extraordinary Ability), H-1B (Professionals), and TN (Canadian and Mexican Nationals) types, and she has expertise in preparing visa applications. Ms. Polito is also experienced in the preparation of labor certification applications and immigrant petitions for EB-1, EB-2, and EB-3 categories as well as applications for employment-based and family-based adjustment of status applications and consular processing.

Ms. Polito has assisted in the following: 

  • Citizenship: N-400 Applications for Naturalization
  • Waivers: Assist in preparing foreign nationals requiring waivers in the following categories: National Security Entry Exit Registration System (NSEERS), Waivers of the J-1 Two Year Foreign Residency Requirement, I-601 Application for Waiver of Ground of Inadmissibility, I-192 Application for Advance Permission to Enter as a Non-Immigrant, and I-212 Application for Permission to Reapply for Admission into the United States After Deportation or Removal 
  • Department of Labor: Assist with Labor Certification Applications
  • I-9 Audit: Review of I-9 forms
  • Diversity Visa Lottery Applications: Assist DV lottery winners with green card process
  • Outbound Visa Applications: Coordinate with clients and foreign consulates to apply for outbound business visas and tourist visas (e.g. China, India, Vietnam, Korea, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Thailand, and Schengen visas, etc.)
  • USCIS Requests for Evidence and DOL Labor Certification Audits: Assist with preparing responses to USCIS Requests for Evidence and DOL Labor Certification Audits

Ms. Polito has given presentations at firm seminars and law forums, as well as at client locations. She is the co-author of “Post 9-11 Challenges for the Immigration Paralegal”, Michigan Bar Journal, (July 2007), Volume 86, No. 7 and "Going Global," Michigan Bar Journal, (March 2001), Volume 80, No.3.
