Mr. Karlinsky is a trial lawyer and litigator specializing in complex civil litigation, both business-related and private client. Over the course of his 33 year career, his experience has encompassed trial and appellate advocacy in business and business tort, contract and commercial, securities, corporate, employment, trusts and estates, partnership, real estate, and constitutional litigation and arbitration, and governmental and self-regulatory organization investigations and proceedings. He has represented clients across a wide range of industries including securities and commodities, banking, investment and investment banking, real estate, technology, franchising, retail, construction, public relations and communications and hotel and leisure.

"Marty adds great depth and experience to our litigation practice and to our New York office," said Philip J. Kessler, chairman of Butzel Long. "As we continue our expansion in key practice areas, he brings a wide range of litigation talent and exposure and will be a valuable asset to the firm."

Before joining Butzel Long, Mr. Karlinsky was a partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP (formerly Rosenman & Colin LLP). Earlier, in 1982, he founded Camhy Karlinsky & Stein LLP, a firm that ultimately grew to 60 lawyers and where he served as managing partner. He began his career at the New York firm of Shea & Gould.

A graduate, cum laude, of New York University's Washington Square College of Arts & Sciences, Mr. Karlinsky received a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law, where he was managing editor of the Moot Court Board. During law school he served as a full-time extern law clerk to the Hon. William H. Orrick, Jr., Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.

Mr. Karlinsky holds national leadership positions with the American Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (AFHU) and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). He has been a member of the Board of Directors of AFHU since 2006 (as well as an associate governor of the Board of Governors of the Hebrew University itself), and was president of the Greater New York Region of AFHU from 2006 to 2008. Mr. Karlinsky is a member of the National Commission and the National Executive Committee of ADL, and serves as chair of its Litigation Oversight Committee. He was formerly chair of ADL's National Legal Affairs Committee, chair of ADL's New York Regional Board, and vice chair of ADL's National Civil Rights Committee. He also serves as a trustee of the ADL Foundation.

Mr. Karlinsky has been involved in the teaching of trial advocacy since 1992, first as leader of advocacy training in the firm he headed and then as an instructor at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy ("NITA") at NITA programs at Hofstra Law School, Temple Law School, and the National Session of NITA at the University of Colorado School of Law, and at the University of San Francisco Intensive Advocacy Program.

Mr. Karlinsky is admitted to practice in New York State, California and the District of Columbia, before the Supreme Court of the United States, and before several United States District and Circuit Courts.
