ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Butzel Long associate attorney Mark W. Jane recently received the Outstanding New Lawyer Award for service as Co-Chair of the New Lawyers Section of the Washtenaw County Bar Association.
Mr. Jane has been very active in the Washtenaw County Bar Association. For the past two years, he has been a Co-Chair of the Association’s New Lawyers Section (formerly the Young Lawyers Section). In that capacity, Mr. Jane has held an at-large seat on the Association’s Board. During his tenure, Mr. Jane has been key in planning various programs for new lawyers and helped them integrate into the legal practice.
Based in Butzel Long’s Ann Arbor office, Mr. Jane practices in the area of ERISA, employee benefits and compensation, with exposure to 401(a) defined benefit plans, 401(k) and 403(b) defined contribution plans, 457(b) tax-exempt top hat plans, comprehensive health and welfare plans, and multi-employer pension and welfare benefit plans.
He has worked on a wide variety of employee benefits matters, including designing/drafting employee pension and welfare benefit plans, consulting with plan administrators and sponsors over fiduciary compliance and fiduciary best practices, advising over HIPAA and COBRA compliance, reviewing and processing Qualified Domestic Relations Orders, and reviewing service provider contracts.
Mr. Jane serves as a District 3 representative on the State Bar of Michigan Young Lawyers Section Executive Council. In addition, he was recognized as a Michigan Rising Star in 2009 by Michigan Super Lawyers.
Mr. Jane is admitted to practice in California and Michigan and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan (B.A. with high distinction, 2002) and Loyola University Chicago School of Law (J.D., cum laude, 2006).
