Vice President and Shareholder
J. Michael Huget is a Vice President of Butzel Long and a member of the firm's Board of Directors. He has been a shareholder since 1994 and currently oversees the firm's growing Intellectual Property Group.
Mr. Huget has significant first-chair trial and appellate experience in high-stakes intellectual property cases throughout the United States, and has handled more than two dozen trials, preliminary injunction and Markman hearings. He has led patent trial teams in Michigan, New York, Texas, Kansas, Illinois, North Carolina, California, Florida and South Carolina and counseled clients across many industries, including automotive, technology, higher education, publishing, advertising, pharmaceutical, media and entertainment.
Mr. Huget has handled matters for clients such as Johnson Controls, University of Michigan, ABC/Disney, Twentieth Century Fox, Crain Communications, McKeon Products, Sony Corporation and Sony Music, TI Automotive Group, EMI, Warner Records, McKechnie Vehicle Components, Trelleborg Group, Ford Dealer Direct, and The Detroit News. He has extensive experience in the Federal Courts of Appeals, including the Federal and Sixth Circuits.
Mr. Huget is a frequent speaker to leading national intellectual property organizations on myriad intellectual property matters, including preliminary injunctions and persuasive evidentiary techniques.
Mr. Huget is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Michigan Super Lawyers for intellectual property law and litigation. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan (B.A., 1982) and the Michigan State University College of Law (J.D., cum laude, 1986), where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review.
